In the community, the staggering problems of drugs are addressed by the Church and its parishioners through numerous grass-roots anti-drug efforts. Emphasis is put on education and drug-abuse prevention. Through these efforts, children around the world have pledged to be drug-free and communities have united in activities to rid their areas of illicit drug use and promote drug-free living.

"SAY NO TO DRUGS: A FOOTBALL MATCH TO SUPPORT A PREVENTION CAMPAIGN"

"These children can see that there is a serious problem and they want to do something about it," Diane Stein, the local coordinator of the program, told the Atlanta Journal.

The San Francisco Post, the Washington Citizen, and several other papers around the United States reported on a special 1995 Mothers Day surprise. New Drug-Free Marshals from around the country presented their mothers with a card attached to a rose containing the following promise:
"This Mothers Day, you are getting two gifts from me. The first is this lovely flower and the second is my solemn pledge to live a life free of drugs. Today I became a Drug-Free Marshal which means I promise to be drug-free and to help make my community drug-free too."
"SAY NO TO DRUGS: A FOOTBALL MATCH TO SUPPORT A PREVENTION CAMPAIGN"
The Italian Sprint and Sport reported in March 1995 on a soccer game in support of drug-free living, between the Church of Scientology "Say No to Drugs" team and the Torino Calcio womens team:
"Many atheletes and sports teams are supporting the Say No To Drugs campaign, including marathon champions Given dAuria and Walter Durbano, [and] the Torino Dragons hockey team ... to pledge their solidarity and desire for a better society free from drugs."

The French paper LImpartial reported August 10, 1995:
"The members of the Church of Scientology continue their awareness campaign about the damaging effects of drugs.... Their drug-free pledge is meeting again with great success."
